Tourist Guides Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme

A serious accident can undermine your ability to earn an income and leave you with major expenses. Personal Accident Insurance is a way to ensure your continued financial security if you are disabled by an accident.
Tourist Guides are not covered under the vehicle or tour operator passenger liability insurance policies as they are deemed to be an employee of the Tour Operator. Therefore it is necessary to develop a scheme to render coverage to the tourist guide in case of accidental injury or death.

Tourism Bill 2011 (draft)
Dear Colleagues
As you all by now realise that the Tourism Bill 2011 ( Draft ) has been published on the 5th August 2011 and is open for comment for 60 days
We would like to send out a plea request for participation on this document.
For more than 5 years in many different forums and individually there were people advocating for changes on the 2000 amendment ACT that regulates tourist guides . DEAT employed a consultant to come up with a report and professionalisation status for the industry which just confirmed all the complaints

International Tourist Guide Day celebrations 21 Feb 2011

International Tourist Guides Day, in South Africa, was held on the 21st February 2011. The venue was the well known landmark and tourist site, the Voortrekker Monument.

The Voortrekker Monument was built to commemorate the struggle the Dutch speaking farmers had against prejudges of the British Colonial government in the Cape. The farmers had to battle, not only against the government, but had to fight for survival against marauding tribes and some of the most difficult farming conditions experienced.
The Great Trek, as it was called, started in 1836. The farmers packed all their belongings on to ox wagons and with all their live stock, started to move northwards. With no roads and the ever presence of marauders and wild animals, these people were driven by the urge for independence and guided by the Holy Bible.
The Voortrekker Monument is on the southern side of Pretoria and overlooks the city centre and surrounding areas of Pretoria.
